Men’s Style Spotlight: The Shirt Says it All

Up until now we’ve focused this blog primarily on women’s style, but we’ve also heard from the fellas that you’d like to see more posts on men’s style. So guys, this one’s for you! We thought we’d shine the spotlight on one of our favorite men’s style staples: the button-down shirt! From classic dress shirts to eccentric sport shirts, this is one item of clothing that you can never have too many of. The Shirt can say it all; whether it’s worn suited or hanging casually over a pair of jeans, the shirt you choose says a lot about you. It reflects your personality, your style and even your mood that day (perception is reality, even in your clothing!). So have a little fun getting dressed in the morning and pick a shirt that conveys the “you” you want to have shine that day!

Here’s just a few of our favorites from our current Spring selection:

The Stand-Out-In-A-Crowd Shirt:

Bold in both pattern and color (and even texture), these shirts add a little fun to your wardrobe. They’re the perfect way to stand out – to be remembered at that job interview, be unique, add some flair to your style and never get bored with your work attire. A shirt with a bright, interesting pattern gives off a playful yet confident vibe, and shows you aren’t afraid to rock a bold look. Mixing a bold floral with bright plaid? Yes, please! Whether it’s date night or Friday at the office, your bold shirt will suit your positive demeanor. So get creative with color, pattern, or both!

The Flying-Under-The-Radar Shirt:

Sometimes you don’t necessarily want to stand out or wear a shirt that says “I want to be noticed.” If flying under the radar is more your speed, stick with dress or sport shirts with a more understated pattern or color while still maintaining your style. Opt for more traditional prints and neutral tones, and you really can’t go wrong. Think: classic plaids, muted geometrics, subtle pin dots.

The I-Mean-Business Shirt:

Movers and shakers need a shirt that says, “Let’s get down to business!” This dressed-to-impress shirt looks smart and sophisticated, eye-catching yet not distracting – the perfect dress shirt for the modern, forward-thinking guy. This doesn’t mean you can’t step outside the box with your shirt choice, but if you’re utilizing color or pattern you’ll want to choose a shirt that grabs attention without detracting from the task at hand. Pair your suit with a bold colored dress shirt in a traditional pattern (like this aubergine gingham shirt) or a subdued color in striking stripes for a sharp, modern look.

Six Essential Pieces Every Woman Should Pack for Vacation

It’s that time of year when many families get to take a much-needed vacation during spring break. But before the R&R and sightseeing comes the not-so-fun part: packing. Packing is often stressful for some people, since it can be challenging to figure out what clothing to bring and what to leave at home. While your swimsuit and sandals may be a given, there are a few other clothing items you’ll definitely want to have on vacation. Check out our top six must-have pieces that every woman should pack in her suitcase:

1. Jersey knit skirt

No matter where your travels take you, a pull-on knit skirt always comes in handy. Packing items that can be used multiple ways is one way to lighten up your load. A jersey knit skirt can be styled with different tops and shoes, and is one of those pieces that can easily go from day to night. It’s also super comfortable, which is key for travel! Black is an obvious choice, but don’t be afraid to go with a neutral stripe either! You’ll get a lot of use with either one.

2. Lightweight sweater

While you may be going somewhere warm, a lightweight sweater is still a nice layering piece to have for chilly mornings and cool evenings. Even if you’re traveling to an especially hot location (like Palm Springs), keep in mind that you can actually get quite chilly indoors because of air conditioning. So a lightweight sweater is a must! Choose a fabric that can pair easily with jeans and compliment a skirt or dress, like this grey cotton blend cardigan.

3. Jeans

Denim is a vacation staple – they’re comfortable, don’t need to be washed after every wear, and go with almost anything. The hardest part may be deciding which beloved pair of jeans to bring! We suggest packing a skinny or straight leg for travel because they easily accommodate a variety of shoe styles. If warm temps call for cooler clothing, bring a cropped pair (and you’ll have no problem dipping your toes in the water!).

4. Basic tee or tank

Who doesn’t love a good tee? This basic piece needs little explanation. It’s your best throw-it-on-and-go item! Our advice is to choose the right sleeve style (long, short or sleeveless) for the climate of your destination. It’s best to pack one (or two) in a neutral color!

5. Novelty blouse

Basics are important but a fun blouse in a vibrant color or pattern or a rich texture will add excitement to your vacay wardrobe. Be sure to pick something that is complimentary to the other items in your bag. Go for something that easily pairs with your skirt and is a no-brainier with jeans, like this lovely cotton textured top. If you want to dress it up a bit, bring your favorite statement necklace.

6. Shorts or denim alternative

Your jeans will probably get a lot of use, but you’ll want to pack an alternative. This can vary depending on the type of trip you are taking. Headed to Disneyland or Hawaii? Throw in your favorite pair of shorts, like these white Bermudas or classic denim shorts. Making the leap across the pond? Try a slim black pant in a wrinkle resistant fabric like a ponte knit – they’re beyond comfortable yet totally chic.
